Jewish Month of Tevet

December 19, 2017

Tevet, the 10th month of the Jewish calendar, begins December 19th.  It is the start of the 4th season of months which include Tevet, Shevat, and Adar. This is a time of progressively increasing light as we pass the shortest day of the year on the 3rd of Tevet and from then on see the light of each day lengthen. So, as we move through this season we should expect to have the increasing light of prophetic revelation on our path. Sometimes our own lips take us down the dark path. Remember to be a generous person in your speech as our Lord was in His coming “not to judge…but to save.”  If darkness is overtaking us we should examine our journey to see where we left the path of light and life.

The first time the tenth month is mentioned in scripture is in Genesis 8:5…“ the ark rested upon the mountains of Ararat. The water decreased steadily until the tenth month; in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains became visible.” (NASU) Even though the tops of the mountains were visible, it would be almost five more months before the earth was dry and God would speak to Noah to leave the ark. There will be a temptation to move out in impatience ahead of what God will open for us. The prophetic revelation we have been receiving will be particularly important in discerning the timing of things ahead. It will be necessary to walk in higher levels of rest and peace to avoid stepping out into muddy situations that are not ready to carry the weight of our new calling.

Dan is the tribe for this month and his name means “to judge.”  Dan judged that the Philistines in the portion of land God gave them were too strong for them to overcome. They allowed fear to drive them from the destiny God had planned for them. Dan chose for themselves an easier portion of land to inhabit. We cannot let fear drive us from the place and portion God has planned for us. Let your dreams reveal your fears and reinforce your faith this month.
